Duties And Responsibilities

Samaritas provides services to youth who have traveled to the US for safety apart from their family or guardians. These youth are given status in the United States as Unaccompanied Children (UC). The children you will be serving will come from diverse and oftentimes traumatic backgrounds and are placed in a shelter setting where Samaritas provides case management, therapy, and other supportive services. The program also helps these youth adjust to the customs and culture of the United States while pursuing their goals of education, English-language learning, and independence. Your primary role is to provide direct interaction and supervision of youth in a residential setting. You will be responsible for care and safety of the youth through assigned shifts. Your position also works alongside the assistant house supervisor to support direct care staff. Provide guidance and support to staff while managing activities and schedules for the youth in the home. Assist with house meetings, policy implementation, and campus operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Serve as a role model to youth in residence by modeling responsible behaviors as required
  2. Monitoring campus operations after business hours and during weekends
  3. Assist youth with participating in daily schedule and routine, including but not limited to meal preparation, medication administration, developing independent skills, and preparing and organizing activities as needed
  4. Monitor activities of youth to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Report non-compliance with home rules to all relevant parties
  5. Maintain communication with youth to ensure adjustment to program expectations
  6. Facilitate and /or participate in house meetings to review house rules, plan activities or discuss other needs of house/group
  7. Participate in treatment planning meeting with each youth as needed or requested
  8. Communicate implementation of each youth's Independent Living Plan with Independent Living Coach, Case Manager and other appropriate parties
  9. Maintain adequate awareness of youth's activities to ensure the safety of the youth, other residents, staff and the home are maintained
  10. Report safety hazards and needed repairs within home and grounds to designated Supervisor
  11. Facilitate shift check-ins and shift summaries during shift changes
  12. Assist with coordinating and scheduling community outings and activities
  13. Be aware of the subject matter trained by the house supervisor regarding crisis intervention, behavioral management, and de-escalation techniques. Observe and provide correct action if needed regarding Youth Support Worker's implementation of the above techniques in everyday procedures

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

 

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • College coursework in social services preferred
  • Professional training in social work, social services or child development preferred

 

Experience

 

  • 1 year experience working in a group home or residential setting preferred
  • Some supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience working with cross cultural populations preferred
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish (or the Major language of the youth in care) preferred

 

Additional Work Requirements

 

  • Valid unrestricted driver's license with good driving record, proof of current registration and automobile insurance required; reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting persons served required
