We’re Hiring a Behavioral Health Clinical Director 

 

Make a lasting impact as a Clinical Director leading high-quality behavioral health, Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and outpatient clinical services. In this pivotal role, you’ll shape program strategy, elevate clinical excellence, and expand access to care across diverse communities. Partner with executive leadership to drive evidence‑based practices, strengthen technology‑enabled workflows ( including MBC, EHR optimization, and AI-powered tools—to enhance outcomes and expand access) ensure regulatory compliance, and support a high-performing team of managers and clinicians. Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work or a related behavioral health discipline.
• Full independent licensure in Social Work or a related field, in accordance with state requirements.
• MCBAP certification, or an equivalent state‑recognized SUD credential where applicable.
• Established clinical experience in behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment settings.
  • Limited direct patient care required within scope and credentialing. 

• Demonstrated administrative and leadership experience overseeing interdisciplinary treatment teams, programs, or clinic operations.

Duties And Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities 

 

Program Strategy & Development 

  • Plan, develop, and implement new and existing services that meet market demands and organizational priorities, ensuring services are aligned with projected trends in service delivery. 
  • Aid in launching new programs and outreach initiatives to expand access and strengthen community partnerships. 
  • Contribute to annual budgeting and multi-year strategic planning; monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and align program development with financial sustainability goals. 

Team Leadership and Development 

  • Provide administrative and clinical direction for behavioral health services with a focus on EBPs (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and other modalities consistent with organizational standards). 
  • Provide leadership across behavioral health teams; supervise staff and programs; train staff in policies, documentation, and workflow requirements to ensure timelyaccurate completion. 
  • Ensure adequate supervision and oversight of unlicensed staff, consistent with state and professional regulations. 
  • Provide supervision, coaching, mentorship, and support to program directors and staff within the assigned programs.  This includes providing consultation on complex, high-risk, ethical, and legal clinical issues 
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. 
  • Identify and support the collective and individual development of team members. 

 

 Cross-functional Collaboration: 

  • Partner with the IT Department to develop, use, and maintain technology that supports clinical operations (e.g., EHR optimization, clinical decision support, AI scribing tools), improving efficiency and outcomes. 
  • Design and optimize clinical operations and workflows in collaboration with IT, billing and Finance teams. 
  • Coordinate with HR to ensure all service providers hold required licenses/certifications and are paneled/credentialed with payers necessary for service delivery and reimbursement. 
  • Coordinate intern opportunities with HR. 

Compliance & Quality Assurance 

  • Coordinate with Program Managers and supervisors to meet all regulatory and quality standards, including documentation audits, state licensing and contract requirements, local ordinances, client rights, organizational policies, and documentation for billing integrity. 
  • Support the implementation and ongoing refinement across all clinical services, including measure selection, clinician training, workflow design, and continuous quality improvement. 
  • Work with Chief Impact Officer to track and monitor outcome data, identify gaps, and drive new initiatives; support relevant clinical efforts as needed.  

Community Engagement & Partnerships 

  • Build and maintain strong relations with contractual/governmental referral sources (e.g., community mental health entities, commercial insurers, courts, health systems). 
  • Partner with Marketing and Community Engagement teams to grow referral networks and organizational visibility; serve as a clinical ambassador via workshops, donor events, external presentations, and other engagements. 

Fiscal & Productivity Management 

  • Manage program budgets responsibly; ensure bottom-line fiscal and clinical accountability for private-pay outpatient services. 
  • Monitor and manage clinical staff productivity, access, and throughput; align staffing and scheduling with demand and quality standards. 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or related behavioral health field required. 
  • Full independent licensure in Social Work or a related field required (per state requirements). 
  • MCBAP certificationrequired (or equivalent state-recognized SUD credential where applicable).  
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in behavioral health/SUD settings. 
  • Demonstrated administrative leadership experience overseeing interdisciplinary treatment teams, programs, or clinics. 

 
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

 

  • Advanced knowledge of program development, administration, and staff supervision in behavioral health/SUD contexts. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in EBPs (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, DBT, TF-CBT) and MBC approaches, including measure selection, training, and workflow integration. 
  • Strong command of QA methodologies, outcome measurement, and CQI; familiarity with COA standards, state licensing, payer requirements, and HIPAA. 
  • Proven ability to design/optimize clinical operations, documentation standards, and technology-enabled workflows in partnership with IT/HIM/Finance. 
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and community engagement skills; ability to collaborate with referral sources, payers, and regulatory bodies. 
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical, problem-solving, and change management skills; ability to balance clinical quality with fiscal stewardship. 
  • Able to coach and develop staff, manage productivity, and sustain a culture of equity, safety, and high performance. 

 

Work Conditions:
 

  • Physical Demands: Primarily office-based work, occasional travel to meetings or conferences. No significant physical demands. 
  • Work Environment: Office setting with a collaborative environment. Some flexibility to work remotely. 
  • Travel Requirements: Occasional travel for conferences, meetings, and networking events. 
  • Limited direct patient care required within scope and credentialing.
